Love Movies

The best Love Movies are usually stories that can make the viewer experience the emotions that the characters themselves are feeling. Below is our list of the top 10 Love Movies. Some of these movies are classics, and some are contemporary films.

10. Romeo + Juliet (1996)

In a modern take on the classic Shakespearean love tragedy, Baz Luhrmann cast Leo DiCaprio and Claire Danes as the unfortunate teenage lovers, which proved to be a phenomenally good decision.

9. Bringing Up Baby (1938)

In Howard Hawks’ classic romantic comedy, Katharine Hepburn is so taken with Cary Grant that she launches a series of hair brained schemes to get his attention.

8. Annie Hall (1977)
Woody Allen, as neurotic comedian Alvy Singer, contemplates why he parted ways from his unique and quirky girlfriend, played by Diane Keaton. Charming, sweet and very funny.

7. The Philadelphia Story (1940)
In George Kukor’s classic Katharine Hepburn is a society heiress faced with the difficult challenge of choosing between her past love, her present love and her new love.

6. When Harry Met Sally (1989)
In this clever and witty love story, Billy Crystal is of the opinion that “men and women cannot be friends because the sex always gets in the way”. Nonetheless, he agrees to be Meg Ryan’s closest friend, despite the couple being completely in love with one another.

5. Edward Scissorhands (1990)

Tim Burton’s film is a fairy tale set in suburbia. Johnny Depp plays a half constructed man/monster named Edward, a sensitive soul who has large shears instead of hands. Edward Sscissorhands is a touching story about love, tolerance, beauty and creativity.

4. To Catch a Thief (1955)
In Alfred Hitchcock’s famous romance, Cary Grant elegantly plays the part of a supposedly reformed jewel thief, and Grace Kelly plays the stunningly attractive heiress holidaying in the French Riviera.

3. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)

This Charlie Kaufman-Michel Gondry film centers around a medical procedure that can erase any single individual from a persons memory. When Jim Carrey’s character Joel finds out that his ex-girlfriend Clementine (played by Kate Winslet sporting some very cool hair!), has erased him from her memory, he decides that the only way to ease the pain is to go through the same procedure himself, thereby removing her from his own memory. Don’t worry, the film sounds more complicated than it actually is. A very touching movie, with excellent performances by Carrey and Winslet.

2. Casablanca (1943)

Casablanca accomplishes that which only the most impressive films can; it ensnares the viewer within the story, and establishes a true link with the characters. A phenomenal film, and thoroughly deserving of its status of one of the all time classic love movies.

1. Titanic (1997)
The epic story of the sinking of the Titanic is told in a film that lives up to its name. The performances of Leo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet are both to the high standard that we have come to expect from them. A powerful film that is likely to appear at the top of Love Movie lists for some years to come.
